focus more on range and delivery Online retailing in Australia is growing, as it is around the world. There are those predicting that 50% of all retailing will be online by 2050. I have little doubt that this is right, and it will not stop there. In Australia, about 7.5% of retailing is online. This is much lower than most other OECD countries. This will change, however, and I predict that Australia will catch up with other similar countries within 5 years. The bigger issue, certainly for local businesses, however, must be the proportion of Australian online purchasing that is from sites outside of Australia. PFS research has found that some 69% of online shoppers regularly buy from sites based outside of Australia. Other research has demonstrated that as much as 40% of online purchases made in Australia are made from sites based outside of Australia. This is not good…
