exploit the potential of local markets It is now well established that more than 50% of Australians regularly shop online. In 2016 it was estimated that 7.5% of Australian retail turnover was online. This is expected to grow to 22% in 2018 and reach 50% by 2025. The value of online shopping in Australia in 2017 exceeds $35 billion per annum. There are few businesses that would not like a slice of this, or can afford to ignore it. It is likely that the entry of Amazon’s market place into the Australian market in 2018 will accelerate the growth of online shopping. All of this said, there is an interesting statistic that seems to be largely ignored or overlooked.
