CONSUMERS ARE MORE CONNECTED WITH COMMUNITY THAN EVER The nature of communication and community is changing. I was involved in a conversation recently in which the other party was lamenting what he considered the death of communication. He cited his observation, that when he is at the station each morning, rather communicating, most people are on their mobile phones. He said – ‘they just do not talk anymore – the art of conversation is dead’. I would and did argue that he could not be more wrong. These people were talking and they were having conversations – they were just having them online. Indeed, I would argue that these people are conversing more than ever given that in the past – many of them while waiting for the train were standing or sitting in silence – communicating with no one.
