I am led to believe it was Bill Clinton that many years ago said “It’s the economy -stupid” in reference to the fact that people more often than not vote on the basis of the economy. The fact is, I think in most cases he is right. Certainly federal governments in Australia seem to be voted in or out on the basis of the handling of the economy. To my mind, that is a very sad commentary on humanity. Whilst I agree that the economy is important, it is not what makes life what it is, and it is not the be all and end all of a successful society. Factors like compassion have very little relevance to the economy. Objectives like happiness, have little relationship to the economy.
