The Holden and Ford station wagons were very popular in the 1950’s, 60’s, and 70’s. In the 1970’s however, a new category of vehicle emerged – the ‘panel van’. This was like a station wagon but it only had two doors and the rear half of the vehicle was higher to provide more space. In the 1980’s another new class of vehicle emerged – the ‘hatch-back’ – a two or four door vehicle, much like a station wagon, but generally smaller – although not always.
