Fishing is hunting. Despite the fact that they are rarely seen as similar, both of course involve killing animals for food or sport, or both. Despite the fact that I am a vegetarian, I have no problem what so ever with people fishing for food. Setting aside a range of issues pertaining to guns and safety, I also have no problem with people hunting for food. I would never do it, but that does not mean others should not. I do however have a huge problem with fishing for sport and indeed any kind of hunting for sport. In my view it in unethical to fish or hunt for sport or entertainment. Indeed, I believe it is unethical on a number of levels. It is unethical to take any life for any other reason other than survival – food or safety. How could anyone think it ethical to inflict misery…
