What is more, our emotions are hindering effective decision making. A 55 year old living in Australia who is thinking rationally would not go out and buy a Ferrari. That is not to say that there are not good reasons for this individual to buy such a vehicle, it is just that such a purchase is no more rational than the belief that perpetual growth is possible in a world with constrained resources.
