NOT ALL LEGAL PRODUCTS SHOULD BE ADVERTISED – 3 OBSERVATIONS There are people who run the argument that if a product is legal, then it should be legal to advertise it, or at least, brands that offer it. Smoking, alcohol, and junk foods, are typical areas of controversy in this regard. I would argue that very few things should be illegal. I would even argue that narcotics should be legal. However, the advertising of these products should be strictly limited. I would argue that it is not ethical to advertise cigarettes, alcohol, junk food or a range of other products that science has shown conclusively do us more harm than good. I would not restrict ‘choice’ and therefore supply – but I would argue that advertising such products is not ethical. I would suggest that it is only a matter of time before the community takes a similar view. That…
